IWF sieht Kosten der COVID-Pandemie über die geschätzten 12,5 Milliarden Dollar hinaus ansteigen

WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) – The International Monetary Fund expects to raise its estimate that the COVID-19 pandemic will cost the world economy $12.5 trillion by 2024, the global lender’s chief said on Thursday.

IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva told an event hosted by the Financial Times that supply chain disruptions, inflation and tighter monetary policies were „throwing cold water on the recovery everywhere.“

She said that huge gaps in COVID-19 vaccination rates and the growing overall divergence between rich and poor caused by the pandemic, along with learning losses and increased gender impacts, would lead to more protests, tensions and insecurity.
